TV release in Germany, Austria and Switzerland


For all who missed MY FATHER. MY UNCLE. in the cinemas there is a chance to watch it on TV: The film will be screened on 3Sat on Sunday, 17/10/2010 at 21:45. Don't miss it.

Just saw the film too! Unfortunately the text in the end was so small, that I could not read it on my small television, so now I am wondering what happened with Sinan and his family after the film was made. I am so curious! Hope to find the answer somewhere here...

6 month later he was in Dubai again, but than he felt overstrained by the family and he broke the tie.

Tolllleeee Doku. Hab ne dt. Mutter und n irakischen Vater und habe dort Kindheit und Jugend verbringen können.
Ich fand das alles sehr realistisch. Typisch irak. Familie. Leider konnte ich bei 3sat nicht alles sehen, da Baby oft weinend unterbrochen hat:-(. Hoffentlich kommt bald eine Wiederholung. Vielleicht auch ne Fortsetzung? Familie nach D einladen? Um zu sehen wie alle auf europ. Offenheit reagieren, speziell der Buder. gglg

Sehr geehrter Herr Heller,

gestern habe ich Ihren Film in 3sat gesehen und bin davon noch immer sehr bewegt. In den letzten 4 Jahren habe ich jeweils eine Kulturreise in die islamische Welt gemacht (Ägypten, Marokko, Jordanien, Türkei). Aber alles, was ich dort hinsichtlich Islam gelernt habe, war rein verstandesmäßig.

Durch Ihren Film konnte ich erstmals fühlen, was Morgenland und Abendland trennt. Ich meine nun zu verstehen, warum es für einen Moslem nahezu unmöglich ist, seine von der Religion bestimmten Werte aufzugeben. Ebensowenig wären wir bereit, unsere Freiheit gegen diese Werte einzutauschen. Natürlich gibt es Ausnahmen, aber ich denke, viele sind es im Westen nicht, die ihr Leben von religiösen Werten bestimmen lassen.

Der Film war für mich spannend und ergreifend wie eine große klassische Tragödie – es war mir von Anfang an klar, dass die Wünsche und Hoffnungen von Sinans Familie sich nicht erfüllen können und dass sie eine große Enttäuschung werden hinnehmen müssen. Ich blieb zurück mit dem Bedürfnis, seinen Vater zu trösten – wohl wissend, dass ich das nicht kann. Verwundert bin ich darüber, wie selbstverständlich es für mich war, dass die Mutter den Schauspielerberuf inakzeptabel fand.

Jedenfalls hat mir Ihr Film eine ganz neue Sicht eröffnet und ich hoffe und wünsche mir, dass Millionen Menschen diesen Film sehen. Allerdings denke ich jetzt auch darüber nach, ob unsere Forderung nach Integration der Immigranten nicht ein Ding der Unmöglichkeit ist. Dazu müssten sie sich ihrer Wurzeln und Werte entledigen und was bekommen sie dafür?

Director and cameraman for various film projects. 2007 participant of the Rutger Hauer masterclass in Rotterdam, 2009 participant of the Zurich Masterclass. Premiered a social spot “Security Camera” at the Panorama of the 2007 Berlinale, which won a special mention at the “Teddy” award as well as a “valuable” rating from the Film Evaluation Center in Wiesbaden. Was a scholarship holder of the society for Film and Television producers (VFF München). Leader of an international film workshop in Jelenia Gora, Poland, in 2010. MY FATHER. MY UNCLE. has been shown on several international film festivals (DOK Leipzig, Dubai, Zurich, London) and will be released in cinemas across German speaking Europe.
